Eating Environmentally Conscious

Here’s a personal quiz for you: How many napkins, cups, plates, to-go boxes, forks and spoons do you personally toss in the garbage every week?

The number is probably staggering, isn’t it? From the take out lunch to the weekend stop at the ice cream parlor, we are attributing mind-boggling amounts to landfills. Tons and tons that stay and stay! One estimate is that each person dumps 240 plastic forks a year in the garbage.

Getting food to go at one of your favorite take out places is as American as apple pie. Women like nothing better than not having to cook somedays and well, men, they love having it done by someone else.

But now we’re all faced with making a conscious effort to do our part to save the earth and here’s a unique alternative to plastic!

Stephanie Bernstein founded To-Go Ware in 2004 after becoming socially conscious in 1997 of the number of plastics that go into our landfills.

Her line of bamboo reusuable utensils and her stainless steel lunch containers are a positive start. I know, I know, you’re saying “It’s like going back to the old days when we packed our lunch”, but you’re also always saying, “There’s nothing like the good old days, too” aren’t you?

The utensils are washable and packaged in a handy cotton carrying case; the stainless steel containers are dishwasher safe, durable and attractive.

This inexpensive line is a start at doing your part to reduce your own personal ecological forkprint and encouraging others to follow.

So are you ready to stop contributing to this assault on mother earth? Try Stephanie’s To-Go Ware. After all, it’s our earth and there’s only one.

What a great idea and just in time for summer outings! I’ve started using bamboo kitchen utensils recently, so the reusable bamboo eating utensils will be a pleasant shift too. Also, I’m tired of plastic/vinyl lunchbags, so if the stainless steel containers are cute, I’ll definitely be ordering one of them! Thanks Kathy for the info!
